Inventory Lite
Production deployment developed with EC Solutions and Enterprise.
Overview
Inventory Lite is a lightweight, mobile-first inventory tracking and asset audit platform engineered for warehouse staff and field technicians at EC Solutions and Enterprise. Designed to replace error-prone manual clipboards and slow legacy enterprise terminals, the application provides instant barcode lookup, real-time stock counting, and optimistic transaction recording in connectivity-constrained warehouse environments.
System Architecture
The client application is built as an installable Progressive Web App (PWA) using Next.js App Router, React, and TypeScript. A service-worker layer intercepts operational requests, caching static shell assets and critical product manifests locally via CacheStorage and IndexedDB.
- Offline-First Data Layer: Built on top of client-side IndexedDB repositories with an optimistic mutation queue. Technicians can scan, tally, and adjust stock quantities in disconnected zones (e.g., basement depots or metal storage containers).
- Background Sync: Mutations recorded while offline are queued into an idempotent action log. When network connectivity is restored, a background synchronization worker replays batched transactions against the backend REST API with conflict resolution heuristics (last-write-wins with server timestamp checks).
State Synchronization & Optimistic UI
To maintain sub-100ms response times during high-velocity barcode scanning:
- State management leverages lightweight reactive stores with instantaneous optimistic updates.
- Scanned items update UI counters immediately while queuing network requests.
- Failed sync events trigger unobtrusive inline notifications with manual retry triggers, ensuring field users never lose track of unsaved ledger adjustments.
Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
Warehouse workflows require clear separation of duties between floor clerks, inventory auditors, and depot supervisors:
- Floor Clerks: Restricted to barcode scanning, item lookups, and decrementing stock during fulfillment.
- Auditors: Granted full cycle-counting privileges with batch adjustment submission capabilities.
- Depot Supervisors: Full administrative access to reconcile variances, export audit logs, and manage team access tokens.
- Authentication tokens and session claims are validated at edge middleware, preventing unauthorized access before views render.
